Michael Mackey, M.D. attended Hendrix College in Conway and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Biology in 1969. He then attended the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences and received his medical degree in 1973. He completed his internship at UAMS in 1974, followed by a residency in internal medicine and then a fellowship in nephrology.
Dr. Mackey entered a nephrology practice in Jonesboro in 1978. He was president of the UAMS Alumni Association (Caduceus Club) in 1992 and is a member of the UAMS Founder’s Society and Legacy Society. He was president of the Southern Medical Association (SMA) in 2002 and was named “Nephrologist of the Year” in 2004 by the Arkansas Kidney Foundation. Dr. Mackey was director of the AHEC Northeast from 1981 until 2006.
He enjoys flying airplanes and photography.
